The Wentworth family came from England to Boston in the early 1600s, and for many generations, served important roles in the early governance of the United States. In the early 1800s, Daniel Wentworth became one of the earliest settlers of nearby Knox, Maine, and members of the Wentworth family still lives in the country home there today.
A skilled engineer and entrepreneur, Lloyd Wentworth built the Wentworth Center in 1978, and over the decades it has evolved with the times, becoming a home to a variety of ventures, including a food market, craft and souvenir shops, and restaurants.
